A Learner-Oriented Teaching Methodology

At LSV, we value our students’ progress above all. That’s why our teaching methodology is student-oriented and built around flexibility, creativity, and communication.

We aim to create a friendly and encouraging space where foreigners feel safe to learn, speak, and make mistakes – because that is how real learning happens. For beginners, we focus heavily on pronunciation, as it is often the most challenging part of Vietnamese. For intermediate and advanced learners, we provide memory tips, grammar shortcuts, and real-life context to help you apply what you learn every day.

1. Teaching Methodology in Practice – How We Teach

My personal approach combines the Facilitator style and the Hybrid teaching style.
I see language as something creative – like music or painting. It is not just about memorizing; it is about expression, interaction, and finding your own rhythm. That is why I encourage an open, collaborative class environment where students do, not just listen.

This is a tonal language; there are many similar-sounding words that can only differentiated by tone, which makes pronunciation the biggest challenge in learning the language. As a result, Vietnamese learners are often anxious about speaking, because the majority of Vietnamese people struggle to understand non-native speakers.

Hence, my classes tend to implement individual and group activities that emphasize pronunciation and speaking practice. Activities are also designed to help students develop critical thinking and trigger creativity which is an essential part of learning languages.

2. Adapting to Different Learning Styles

After years of teaching students from many countries and age groups, I have realized: no two learners are the same.

Some people learn best through visuals, others through sound, or by reading and writing. That is why I mix tools and techniques in every class:

  • ✅ Flashcards & gestures for visual learners
  • ✅ Repetition & audio for auditory learners
  • ✅ Short writing tasks for reading/writing types
  • ✅ Real-life speaking simulations for everyone

3. Teaching Adults with the Hybrid Method

Most of my students are adults. They are busy, and they choose to study because they want to – not because they have to. That is why I follow the Hybrid method: blending structured content with flexibility and personal connection.

One thing I always try to do is find shared interests with my students. When we connect as people, the learning becomes more natural. Many of my students have continued with me for a long time because, in their words, they feel like they are learning with a friend, not just a teacher.

Final Notes for Future Instructors

If you want to become a good instructor at LSV, here is what I have learned:

  • Be a teacher
  • Be a student
  • Be a friend
